IESM faculty member Dr. Rafaela Jane Delfino participated as a discussant in the forum “From Climate Prediction to Climate Resilience: Research, Capacity Development and Resilient Infrastructure in the Philippines” on 5 August 2026 at Balay Kalinaw, UP Diliman. Delfino spoke on “Climate Modeling and Extreme Event Attribution in the Philippines,” as part of a series of discussions on climate research, capacity development, resilient infrastructure, and the translation of climate science into policy and planning.

In her discussion, Delfino shared research on how a warming climate may affect tropical cyclones, particularly their strength and the amount of rainfall they bring. The work contributes to understanding how climate change may alter risks from extreme weather in communities exposed to tropical cyclone hazards. Delfino is also a graduate of the University of Reading through the UP-Reading dual PhD program.

The forum brought together representatives from the University of the Philippines and the University of Reading to identify areas for collaboration in climate research, capacity building, and resilience efforts in the Philippines.
