Dr. Mayzonee V. Ligaray and Dr. Rafaela Jane P. Delfino of the Institute of Environmental Science and Meteorology (IESM), University of the Philippines Diliman, have been named recipients of the 2026 Outstanding Young Scientist Awards by the National Academy of Science and Technology, Philippines (NAST PHL). Dr. Ligaray received the award in Environmental Science and Engineering, while Dr. Delfino was recognized in Meteorology.

Dr. Ligaray heads the Environmental Hydrology Laboratory, where her research focuses on hydrology, water resources, and environmental modeling. Dr. Delfino heads the Climate and High Impact Laboratory, with research focusing on tropical cyclones, climate extremes, and climate modeling.

The recognitions highlight the contributions of IESM faculty to environmental and atmospheric science research in the Philippines, particularly in advancing scientific understanding of water, weather, and climate-related challenges.
