Dual degree PhD (by Research) in Meteorology
At the Institute of Environmental Science and Meteorology (IESM), we are committed to fostering academic excellence and advancing knowledge in atmospheric and environmental sciences. In line with this mission, IESM established a partnership with the University of Reading, a globally renowned institution in meteorology, oceanography, and climate science. This collaboration has opened new avenues for education and research through innovative joint programmes and initiatives.
One of the highlights of this partnership is the Dual Degree PhD Programme in Meteorology, supported by the Philippine Commission on Higher Education (CHED) and international funding bodies. This program provides participating students with the unique opportunity to earn doctoral degrees from both the University of the Philippines Diliman and the University of Reading. The program is designed to enhance the academic experience by offering access to diverse expertise, resources, and perspectives.
Students begin their research at IESM, working closely with faculty to develop their research plans. As part of the program, they spend a year at the University of Reading, divided into two six-month visits, enabling them to collaborate with world-class researchers and utilize cutting-edge facilities. Upon returning to the Philippines, students continue their studies at IESM, culminating in the publication of research findings in peer-reviewed journals.
This partnership reflects IESM’s dedication to providing opportunities for global collaboration, promoting high-impact research, and nurturing the next generation of leaders in meteorology and related fields. It also reinforces our commitment to addressing critical environmental challenges through education and innovative research.
