Bernard Alan “BA” Racoma, from the Institute of Environmental Science & Meteorology (IESM) at the University of the Philippines Diliman, has been honored as the College of Science Most Outstanding Ph.D. Graduate for the Class of 2023.

Racoma, who had studied Applied Physics as an undergraduate and Geology for his M.S., pursued his passion for meteorology, culminating in his Ph.D. from IESM. His dissertation focused on understanding tropical cyclone precipitation in the Northern Philippines, under the guidance of Dr. Gerry Bagtasa.

In its recently held Commencement Exercises, the college recognized Racoma as its Most Outstanding Ph.D. Graduate, an honor selected by the CS Committee on Academic Affairs. Additionally, Racoma’s exceptional academic performance and contributions to research earned him the Dr. Edgardo D. Gomez Award. This award is given to a graduate with an exceptional scholastic record and who has published or been accepted for publication in International Scientific Indexing (ISI) journals.

As a faculty member at IESM, Racoma now contributes to the education and inspiration of future meteorologists, sharing his expertise in the field.
