Miguel Revilla, a PhD in Meteorology student at the Institute of Environmental Science and Meteorology (IESM), University of the Philippines Diliman, was recognized for his research presentation at the 13th Accelerated Science and Technology Human Resource Development Program (ASTHRDP) Graduate Scholars’ Conference, held on 18–19 September 2025 at the Limketkai Luxe Hotel, Cagayan de Oro City.
Revilla presented his study, “Spatio-temporal and Surface Level Analysis of Tropical Cyclones,” under the Parallel Oral Presentation Category 2: Environmental Sciences (PhD level). His work contributes to a deeper understanding of tropical cyclone behavior in the Philippines, with implications for weather forecasting and disaster preparedness.
The conference carried the theme “Advancing Climate Action and Environmental Stewardship for the Well-being of Every Filipino.” It was organized by the Science Education Institute (SEI) of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) in partnership with host universities, and featured scholars across the country presenting research in science and engineering.

Revilla joined other awardees from the UP Diliman College of Science in receiving recognition, with presentations assessed by a panel that included Dr. Jayeel Cornelio (Director, SEI), Dr. Mylene Uy (Conference Chair, Mindanao State University – Iligan Institute of Technology), and Dr. Elaida Fiegalan (Conference Co-Chair, Central Luzon State University).
This follows last year’s success of Anjela A. Ilagan, who won an oral presentation competition at the 12th ASTHRDP Graduate Scholars’ Conference 2024.
