The Institute of Environmental Science and Meteorology (IESM) is participating in the 57th Session of the ESCAP/WMO Typhoon Committee, taking place from February 17 to 20, 2025, in Hilton Manila, Newport World Resorts, Manila Philippines. The annual session brings together experts from across the Asia-Pacific region to discuss advancements in tropical cyclone monitoring, forecasting, and disaster risk reduction.

Representing IESM at the event are Dr. Rafaela Jane Delfino, Dr. Gerry Bagtasa, and Dr. Prisco Nilo, who are contributing to discussions on meteorological research and regional collaboration. Dr. Bagtasa also delivered a talk titled “Climatology and Impacts of Multiple Tropical Cyclone Events in the Philippines,” highlighting the complex interactions of successive typhoons and their effects on local weather patterns, flooding, and disaster preparedness.

As a World Meteorological Organization (WMO) Regional Training Center, IESM plays a key role in meteorological education and research in the Philippines. The institute works closely with PAGASA, the country’s national meteorological service, which is also a WMO-designated Regional Training Center, to strengthen capacity-building initiatives in weather and climate science. This collaboration supports training programs, research efforts, and operational forecasting improvements aimed at enhancing disaster resilience in the region.
