The Institute of Environmental Science and Meteorology (IESM), University of the Philippines Diliman, is co-hosting the Global Precipitation Measurement (GPM) and Precipitation Measuring Mission (PMM) Asia-Oceania Workshop 2026 on 26–27 March 2026, in collaboration with the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) and the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA). Day 1 of the workshop is being held at IESM in Quezon City, bringing together participants from across the Asia-Oceania region to advance the use of satellite-based precipitation data .

The workshop focuses on promoting the utilization of satellite precipitation data, advancing research activities, and strengthening collaboration on GPM-related applications. Sessions cover scientific developments in satellite precipitation datasets, including GSMaP, as well as applications in meteorology, flood forecasting, climate monitoring, and agriculture. Faculty members Dr. Gerry Bagtasa and Dr. Bernard Alan Racoma presented their respective research during the event, contributing to ongoing discussions on regional applications of satellite-derived precipitation information.
On the second day, participants will visit PAGASA for a facility tour in the morning before returning to IESM to continue the workshop sessions.
The two-day workshop convenes researchers and practitioners to present studies and discuss applications of satellite precipitation data across the region. The activity takes place in the same week as World Meteorological Day, during which IESM also hosted MeTOURology 2026 and participated in the Philippine Meteorological Society Annual Convention 2026.
