



Dr. Mylene Cayetano and Dr. Mayzonee Ligaray of the Institute of Environmental Science and Meteorology (IESM), University of the Philippines Diliman, joined the Laguna Lake Development Authority (LLDA), Cainta LGU, and partner institutions in reaffirming their commitment to the protection and rehabilitation of the Laguna de Bay watershed during the 26th Abot-Kamay para sa Laguna de Bay – Mission in Action: Solid Waste Recovery, held on October 16, 2025, in Barangay San Juan, Cainta, Rizal.
Dr. Cayetano, Professor at IESM and Chairperson of the Water Quality Management Area (WQMA) Manggahan Sub-basin, represented the academic sector, while Dr. Ligaray, also of IESM, declared support on behalf of the Artificial Intelligence-based Sustainable Water Resources Management in the Philippines (AI-SWaMP) project, a collaborative initiative with LLDA and other agencies.
The event, organized by the LLDA Community Development Division Cluster 4, convened local governments, national agencies, private organizations, and civil society groups to advance joint action on solid waste recovery and watershed conservation. Participants from the municipalities of Cainta, Taytay, Angono, Pasig, Marikina, San Mateo, Teresa, and Antipolo City joined the activity, which resulted in the collection of more than 800 kilograms of solid waste.
The Abot-Kamay para sa Laguna de Bay program continues to serve as LLDA’s platform for community engagement and environmental collaboration in support of a cleaner and more resilient Laguna de Bay ecosystem.
