The Environmental Management Bureau and the University of the Philippines Institute of Environmental Science and Meteorology signed a Memorandum of Agreement on 31 March 2026 for the establishment of an Urban Air Quality Monitoring Site at the UP National Science Complex. The partnership is expected to strengthen air quality monitoring efforts in Metro Manila and support the management of persistent organic pollutants through joint monitoring, data generation, and scientific collaboration.
UP Diliman Chancellor Edgardo Carlo L. Vistan also endorsed the partnership, underscoring the role of academia in informing public governance and environmental policy. In his message, he emphasized the importance of monitoring environmental pollutants and fulfilling international environmental commitments, noting that science and data should guide policy development.
The agreement establishes a platform for sustained collaboration between EMB and UP-IESM, linking scientific monitoring and data analysis with air quality management and environmental decision-making.
