
Dr. Mayzonee Ligaray, faculty member of the Institute of Environmental Science and Meteorology (IESM), University of the Philippines Diliman, has been named runner-up (Honorable Mention) in the 2025 ASEAN-U.S. Science Prize for Women, organized by the ASEAN Secretariat’s Committee on Science, Technology, and Innovation (COSTI) in partnership with the U.S.-ASEAN Business Council, Google, UL Research Institutes (ULRI), and UL Standards & Engagement (ULSE).



This year’s competition focused on “Generative AI for Smart Water Management,” recognizing ASEAN women scientists who apply artificial intelligence to address water-related challenges such as climate resilience, water efficiency, and disaster preparedness. Dr. Ligaray was recognized for her research on AI-based sustainable water resources management through the Artificial Intelligence-based Sustainable Water Resources Management in the Philippines (AI-SWaMP) project, which she leads in collaboration with the Laguna Lake Development Authority (LLDA), the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (DOST-PAGASA), and Pusan National University (South Korea).
As runner-up, Dr. Ligaray received a cash prize of USD 5,000, along with a plaque and certificate from the ASEAN Committee on Science, Technology, and Innovation and its partner institutions.
The Institute of Environmental Science and Meteorology congratulates Dr. Ligaray on this regional recognition and celebrates her continued work in advancing research on sustainable and climate-resilient water management.
