Dr. Gay Jane Perez Appointed Officer-in-Charge of the Philippine Space Agency

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has designated Dr. Gay Jane P. Perez as the Officer-in-Charge (OIC) of the Philippine Space Agency (PhilSA), effective October 20, 2025.

Dr. Perez, who serves as Deputy Director General for Space Science and Technology at PhilSA, is a faculty member of the Institute of Environmental Science and Meteorology (IESM), University of the Philippines Diliman, currently on secondment to the agency. She succeeds Dr. Joel Joseph Marciano Jr., who stepped down as PhilSA’s first Director General in September.

Dr. Perez obtained her PhD in Physics from the National Institute of Physics (NIP), University of the Philippines Diliman, and completed her postdoctoral research at the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center.

She is also the first Filipino recipient of the ASEAN-U.S. Science Prize for Women, recognized for her pioneering work in satellite remote sensing and environmental monitoring.
