The Institute of Environmental Science and Meteorology (IESM) invites the academic community to a thought-provoking lecture by Dr. Palermo as part of the IESM Anniversary Talk Series on March 3, 2025 (Monday) at 10:00 AM. The event will take place at the IESM Building, 1st Floor Auditorium, with a hybrid format available for remote participants (please register here).

This talk marks the launch of the IESM Anniversary Talk Series, a special lineup of lectures in celebration of IESM’s 22nd anniversary. As part of this milestone, faculty, students, and alumni will be sharing their expertise and experiences through a series of discussions that reflect the institute’s commitment to advancing environmental science and meteorology.

Dr. Palermo’s talk, “Catch 22: Navigating the Power of Balance and Harmony in Knowledge and Growth”, will explore the fundamental parallels between the pursuit of academic excellence and the intricate equilibrium in natural systems. The discussion will delve into how the challenges of graduate studies mirror ecological dynamics, emphasizing the necessity of maintaining a balance across various facets of scholarly life, including research, publication, and professional development. Drawing analogies from coastal nutrient cycles and trophic cascades, Dr. Palermo will highlight how disruptions—whether in academia or marine ecosystems—can lead to significant consequences.
