Haze in NCR Likely Due to Local Emissions and some Contributions from Southern Luzon (including Taal)
Preliminary simulations by Dr. Gerry Bagtasa of the Atmospheric Physics Laboratory suggest that the haze observed yesterday in the National Capital Region (NCR) primarily originated from local emissions. The model also indicates that emissions from Taal and power plants in Southern Luzon may have contributed to the haze, with weak regional and local winds playing a significant role in the pollutant accumulation.
It’s important to note that this is an experimental model and not an official forecast or warning. While some observations showed lowered boundary layer height, the data does not strongly support the presence of a significant thermal inversion. The lower boundary layer could instead be attributed to the radiative effects of the accumulated pollutants.
